Our daughter Alahna has been receiving riding therapy at Coffee Creek Riding Center since November 2011 and it has been an answer to prayer. From her first day at riding therapy, we have noticed a marked improvement in her physical condition.Ahahna’s particular type of Cerebral Palsy causes muscle weakness, coordination issues, and spastic, tight muscles in her legs and trunk. The riding therapy has helped Alahna dramatically improve each of these conditions. As she rides atop the horse she receives the exceptional benefit of a prolonged stretch of her adductor muscles (the inside of her thighs). This has contributed to a great improvement in her gait.Furthermore, by the unique design of Joy, Linda, and the volunteers at Coffee Creek, Alahna develops her coordination and other cognitive skills as she engages in several “games” while riding around the arena. She has become quite accurate at throwing baseballs, soccer balls, basketballs, and footballs into a large round net at varying distances and angles. While engaged in these activities, Alahna is continuously applying her trunk and leg muscles to maintain her balance on top of the horse. Thanks to the careful assistance of volunteers, Alahna feels safe and thoroughly enjoys her riding therapy! We are very grateful to Coffee Creek Riding Center, their volunteers, and their supporters for making this type of quality therapy available!Siincerely, Martin and Jodi Deters (Alahna Rose’s Parents)
