Benefits of therapeutic horsemanship.

Physical

There are many physical benefits that riding offers. While on the horse, students are having to use their muscles to maintain balance and control. Many of the games that are played while riding also require them to use large and fine motor skills to complete. The movement the students feel when riding, imitates the movement of walking.

Verbal

Our volunteers are constantly talking and engaging with the students. Whether students engage verbally in return or not our volunteers will continue to treat them as if they are. Many students have said their first words while riding.

Social & Emotional

The social and emotional benefits that our students receive are huge. They will get social interactions with the other students in their class, the volunteers, and instructors. Being on top of a horse allows the students to feel like a typical child for a little while and do something that not everyone gets the opportunity to do.
